Care & Maintenance
Due to the porous nature of the material, there is a risk of stains from dirt or dark liquids. If you spill something on the product, quickly blot any excess liquid to prevent absorption.
For minor stains, dampen the product and gently use the included (150 grit or similar ) to sand the marks away. Make sure to do this in a well-ventilated area. For more stubborn stains, apply a small amount of non-toxic hydrogen peroxide or your preferred natural cleaner, and gently scrub. This will help with disinfecting or whitening the surface without the use of harsh chemicals.
Preventing Mold & Ensuring Proper Drying
Diatomaceous earth is naturally antimicrobial due to its physical structure, not because of chemicals or toxins. In its raw form, it attracts and traps bacteria and parasites, drying them out and killing them.
While Lanuks products are more resistant to mold than most alternatives, mold can still form with prolonged exposure to moisture and humidity.
To prevent mold growth, especially in humid environments, allow the product to fully dry between uses. We recommend cleaning the bamboo rack’s corners weekly with a toothbrush or damp cloth and the same cleaning solution used for the diatomaceous surface. This will help keep mold at bay in the stand's harder-to-reach areas.
Proper airflow is essential for drying the diatomaceous earth surface. If it becomes overly saturated, place it on a dry surface to air out. Once the product returns to its original light color, it’s ready for use again. enjoy !
